Hey friends! 2021 is here and I know we are all THRILLED. I feel like this year is filled with so much hope for a couple of reasons. First, we've dealt with COVID for nine months now so we've gotten used to living life the COVID way. Secondly, there is somewhat of an end in site with the vaccine which is really exciting. Because I've had more time, I've been able to think about what I want in my career, but also from life in general. Because I've had so much time to reflect, I decided I wanted to create a vision board for 2021! You may be wondering, "what's a vision board?" Simple, a vision board is a way for you to visualize what you want to help you achieve it. MindTools describes visualization as follows: Visualization is a useful technique that helps you reach your goals and live your dreams. It works by getting your mind and body ready for what you want to happen – and, just like exercise, the more you do it, the stronger it becomes. MindTools, "Visualization: Imagining - and Achieving - Your Goals" A vision board can include feelings of how you want to live, your purpose, people you want in your life, events you want to happen, career goals, places you want to travel, and overall what you want your life to be like over the next year (or your own designated time frame). I wanted to try a vision board because I've had loose goals (see this old post for an example) in the past but had a hard time sticking with them, frankly because I probably forgot and wasn't constantly reminded about them. In comes my idea to visualize my goals with a board that elicits good feelings and drive for me to reach them. Here are five tips from my experience creating my board. Five Tips for the Perfect Vision Board. Take time to think about your life, goals, quotes or Bible verses, things that inspire you, how you want to live, your aesthetic, how you want to feel, and who you want in your life. Write these down in words. Take those words and plug them into google or Pinterest (follow me on Pinterest while you're there). These are both great resources to find images that you love and represent what you're striving for with your vision board. These images should inspire you and make you feel good. If you're trying to lose weight, I wouldn't advise putting a body on there that makes you feel bad about your body when you look at it. Don't overcrowd it. Overcrowding means different things to different people. Make sure your board is clear and easy to take in when you look at it. Decide the time frame that your vision board will encompass. This is my first time doing a vision board, so I focused on a year. If I reach a goal or need to change or remove something, I can do that! Create a digital vision board and/or a physical board. I love the digital board because it can literally go with you wherever. I used Canva to create my digital vision board. They have templates that you can use here which is where I started. I updated some text and colors and added in some spice! I'll be adding mine to my phone background and my computer so I am constantly reminded of what I'm striving for this year. For the physical board, print out images or cut them from magazines. Place the images on a cork board, in a frame or poster. Here's my 2021 vision board to give you some inspiration!
