Hi friends!
It’s been a month since I returned from Croatia and I’m so excited to share more about my time in Dubrovnik. Honestly, it was one of the most beautiful places I’ve ever visited. I would recommend traveling to Croatia if you have the chance, and I wish I could have been there longer! The color of the ocean, the mountain views, the history and the culture is so interesting. Also the wine. The wine was incredible! 🙂
Today’s post is focused on my time in Dubrovnik. This was such a neat city! I had never been to a city with a wall around it (only seen it on Game of Thrones)! We were only there for Thursday evening, all day Friday and we left Saturday morning to drive to Split. Since we were only there a short time, we stayed at an awesome Air BnB within the Old Town city walls and spent most of our time there.
Here are the top six things to do in Dubrovnik if you are going to be there for a short period of time!
1. Beautiful Views from the Mountain Top!
Take the cable car up the mountain to see the views of Dubrovnik from above but most importantly an amazing sunset!
We arrived in Dubrovnik Thursday afternoon and had a reservation at Panorama during sunset. This restaurant is on top of the mountain in Dubrovnik and has the best views of the Old Town and the ocean. We had dinner with a magnificent view and incredible sunset. The food there wasn’t the best we ate on the trip, but it was worth it for the views! You can also take the cable car up or rent a vespa or quad and take up there to see the sunset views. Many people were up there watching the sunset. It was one of the most beautiful sunsets I’ve ever seen.
2. The Walls of Old Town Dubrovnik
Get up early and walk the walls around the Old Town.
Friday morning we woke up early to start walking the walls of the old town. This was amazing because you are walking on top of the walls, so you see the city and everything around it from above. It was a cool perspective and gorgeous photo opportunities!
3. Taj Mahal Restaurant
Taj Mahal is a traditional Bosnian restaurant. Our Air BnB hostess recommended it to us and a friend of mine did as well. The food was really good and unique and the wine was SO AMAZING. If you know me, you know I love wine, and now I’m on the hunt for this Bosnian red (Blatina, Vinarija Citluk was the name) we drank at lunch!
4. Azur Restaurant
Azur is a “Croasian” restaurant. As the name would suggest they serve a mix between Croatian and Asian cuisine. Alexis and I stumbled across this restaurant as we were just walking through the city earlier in the day and thought it was cute and kind of off the beaten path of all the tourists. It really was wonderful food and I had curry for the first time there!
5. D’Vino Wine Bar
The coolest wine spot in old town!
We loved D’Vino! It’s the perfect and cutest wine bar tucked away on a side street away from the masses of tourists. The employees and owners were so nice and so welcoming. Their service was top notch and they had personality. We ended up meeting the owner, Sasha, who drew a map for us for our drive from Dubrovnik to Split and told us where we should stop! If we hadn’t spoken to him, we would have never known about the excellent winery we stopped at on our drive!
6. Buza Bar on the edge of Dubrovnik
There are two Buza Bars in the Old Town. Buza means hole in the wall, and you literally have to walk through a “hole” in the wall to go outside the wall onto a bar that’s on the cliff with magnificent views of the ocean and the coast. At least at one, you have people jumping from the rocks into the ocean and sunbathing on the rocks. It’s a great European experience! The drinks are nothing special, but the views and atmosphere were great!
I so enjoyed Dubrovnik and hope you enjoyed my travel guide! Have you been to Dubrovnik? What were your highlights? Leave a comment below so we can all know!
xoxo,
Cortney
