I’m so excited to share my findings and experience with my Dyson Airwrap complete styling kit! I literally have wanted this hair tool for a year. A few of my friends have it, so I was fortunate to be able to try it before I owned it. I knew I wanted it after using it for the first time!

When you purchase the Dyson Airwrap complete set, you receive six attachment types. These include:

  1. Drying attachment
  2. Volumizing round brush
  3. Two 1.2 inch curling barrels
  4. Two 1.6 inch curling barrels
  5. Firm smoothing brush
  6. Soft smoothing brush

I’ve had it for a month now, and I have used every piece except for the firm smoothing attachment. So far I’ve used the curling barrels, round brush and dryer attachment the most, but that’s what I think works best for my hair.

The Dyson Airwrap is lightweight, especially compared to the Dyson Supersonic Hair Dryer which I also own. It comes with a case for all the parts so it’s easy to store. Mine also came with a velvet travel pouch which I used to carry a few of the attachments while traveling.

Final Curl Hairstyle

After a month of using the tool and different attachments, I feel like I have a good handle on the basic hairstyles that I can create and I’m really happy with them. Because my hair is so long, I may look into purchasing the curlers that are specific for longer hair. The ones that came with the Dyson Airwrap Complete Set still work, I’m just curious if the long hair specific ones will be even better! I’m looking forward to watching more YouTube videos and playing around with different styles going forward.

Now for the questions you all asked…

Questions about the Dyson Airwrap

Does it save time? How much?

It depends from my experience.

When I want to wear my hair straight, it definitely saves time and energy. The smoothing brush and the round brush have been great for helping me a achieve a straight look with not a lot of effort. I personally gave up using a hair straightener years ago in exchange for a round brush, but if you go through the process of drying your hair and then straightening it, you will save time with this. I also think the Dyson Airwrap round brush attachment is easier to use than the combination of a hair dryer and round brush separately.

When I want to curl my hair with the Dyson Airwrap, at this point for me, it does take longer than when I use my T3 curling iron like in the video in this post. However, I get a more full and bouncy look with my curls, so I don’t mind spending an extra five to ten minutes. If I was pressed for time, I’d dry my hair and use the T3 rather than use the Dyson.

Any tips or Tricks to using it? I feel like I struggle every time I use it.

The airwrap definitely takes practice to use. Here are a few helpful tips:

  1. Specifically with the curlers, make sure you’re hair is not soaking wet, let it air dry or dry it until it’s probably 80% dry.
  2. Make sure you’re not trying to use too much hair.
  3. For the curler specifically, while your hair is wrapped in it, set it with the cool setting for a few seconds.
  4. For the curler specifically, turn off the power before you unwrap your curls. This helps it not tangle and keep your curl.

Do you use the Airwrap on dry or wet hair?

You would use the curlers on damp or dry hair. I’ve found if it’s not completely dry the curls hold longer. Other attachments you can use on wet or damp hair mostly. Although I used the smoothing attachment on my mom’s curly hair and it straightened it out when it was dry!

Do you feel like after using the Airwrap, you can go longer between shampoos?

Yes! The Airwrap works really well to refresh hair! I typically wash my hair every two-three days. I’ve noticed I don’t have to use as much dry shampoo between washes.

Does it add more volume than a regular hairdryer that would last several days with good dry shampoo?

If I use the curling wands or the round brush my hair definitely has more volume. My hair is fine but I have a lot of it, and it’s super long, so volume is a challenge for me. I’ve found in addition to the Dyson airwrap, using volumizing shampoo and conditioner, plus a volumizing mousse or spray, helps to keep volume as well.

The image below is my second day airwrap hair! I didn’t even have dry shampoo or anything. I styled it after this photo was taken for some of the other images in this post!

What styling products do I use before and after using the Airwrap?

I use volumizing products because my long fine hair doesn’t naturally provide volume.

Before: I love Oribe Volumizing Shampoo & Conditioner, and I think it’s really hard to beat the Drybar Southern Belle Volumizing Mousse.

After: I use a light hairspray that holds but isn’t sticky or weighs your hair down. My go-to recently has been Oribe Superfine Strong Spray.

In between washes, I’ve been using Oribe Dry Shampoo. I also recommend the Drybar Dry Shampoo, or for a drug store/Target option, I love Batiste.

Thoughts on needing the long barrel attachments for longer hair?

As I mentioned above, I definitely want to try the barrels for longer hair. While I don’t need it, because I can still create beautiful curls, I am curious if it will make styling my longer hair easier. Another blogger I follow said she tried the longer barrels, and didn’t love them. Final answer, no I don’t think you need them from my experience so far!

Do I need the Dyson Airwrap?

Honestly, I love the Dyson Airwrap. I’m really happy that I have this hair tool. It’s so versatile and gives me more volume and bouncier hair than I’ve ever been able to create with other hair tools. I also feel like I’m able to go longer in between washes for my hair and use less dry shampoo, and that’s great for me!
